TENNIS

I started playing tennis at 8 years old and from the beginning, I knew I wanted to continue with it. I first played in the Little Tennis group, but after about a year I moved up to Future stars which is the third level. I continued to improve. I  went through some struggles with serving and winning games, but I got there eventually with lots of practice and help from a private teacher. In fact, just recently my friend and I played doubles and won 16 games to  2. This was a big deal and proved to the head coach that we were ready to move up. After being in Future Stars for 4 years, he finally agreed that I could play in the next level which is highschool 2/3. I am very thrilled to continue playing in a more advanced group!

 FLUTE

In 4th grade, was the first time I had picked up the flute, and decided I wanted to play it. In elementary school, it was a smooth sailing journey playing the flute and I thought it was going to stay that way, but I was wrong. As I continued playing in middle school, there was a lot of competition and hardships. For example, getting D’s on my playing tests constantly and being told I wasn’t good enough from my teachers. While going through these difficulties, I wanted to quit because I definitely believed it and felt that I shouldn’t continue. However, with wonderful support systems surrounding me, I was guided in the right direction to continue playing the flute as it would do wonders for me in the future. Throughout 6th and 7th grade, I learned  I shouldn’t let one person stop me from doing something I love even if it was my teacher.  I have played in PVYO( Potomac Youth Valley Orchestra) and I got a level 2 on my performance in the Solo and Ensemble Festival which is the second-highest score. I proved not only to my teachers but to myself I am more than good enough and I continue to grow as a flutist every day.

CAPSA

CAPSA is a tutoring program that I began last year. I tutor kids between kindergarten through second grade. This year, Every year is different. This year, I am tutoring a kindergartener, but last year I tutored a second-grader. I absolutely love helping kids improve in their education. Most of the time, we work on math, writing, and spelling. However, with kindergarteners, I tend to focus more on letters, pronunciation, and spelling as well. Though math is important, I want them to know the basics first. CAPSA is also an amazing opportunity to earn SSL hours.

Days For Girls

Days For Girls is a non-profit organization where we make period kits for women worldwide. All of the pads we sew are reusable, there are also liners that we provide within the pads as well as soap and an extra bag so they can wash it. I enjoy participating in this organization because I know I am making a difference in the world by helping out so many women.
